Balls Clearing
Thanks to the foresight of those who came before us, Balls Clearing remains a scenic reserve of great significance. Its abundance of podocarp is rare in how densely they grow, with the towering giant Kaihikatea estimated to be around 700 years old.
A peaceful and easy walk through the reserve leads to balls clearing before the track follows a fence line and returns to the bush track.
Keep an ear out for the birdlife; it can be hard to spot through the dense bush and the height of the canopy.
This easy walk takes between 40 minutes and 1 hour.
