Lake Tūtira

Lake Tūtira

If there is any doubt in your mind that Lake Tūtira is a worthy drive from Napier, it dissolves the minute you arrive.

The camping area is a great distance off the main highway, muffling all but a soft noise in the distance. At dusk, the sun sets over the distant hills, creating beautiful reflections on the calm lake as the chorus of the various waterfowl slowly fades.

Swans. Never before have I encountered more black swans than at Tutiri lakes, with these majestic creatures very relaxed about human presence.

Lake Tūtira boasts a selection of walking tracks to explore. My visit was impromptu, and thus, I didn't have time. I will be visiting again and exploring.

Be sure to follow on Instagram or YouTube for updates.

Updates and more information on the surrounding tracks here.

Campsites are not bookable, but fees are payable to Hawkes Bay Regional Council
