York Road Loop Track

York Road Loop Track

A hidden gem, this short walk doesn’t get the attention it deserves. The York Rd loop is situated away from the visitor centres and associated crowds. Over the years, like many of Egmont National Parks tracks, it has had a lot of work put into it, making for an easy-to-follow and pleasant walk along the alignment of the former Egmont Branch Line. The secluded nature of its locale makes for a peaceful walk, and you are unlikely to encounter crowds.

Best walked clockwise, taking in the various historical points of interest before coming to with grass clearing, perfect for a picnic at the foot of the former branch line. Continuing out along the former roadway takes a short time, making it a great trip to do with kids.

Egmont National is a Kiwi conservation area, dogs are not permitted at any time.
