Historic Tokaanu Wharf
One of the best kept secrets of Lake Taupo, the historic Tokaanu Wharf is tucked away down a short gravel road in the village of Tokaanu. Built in the 1880s, the Wharf was used by steamboat services to take passengers and goods across lake Taupo of 50 years, before becoming obsolute when road and rail networks developed.
The Wharf was restored to original spec in 2003, twenty years later enough time has passed for nature to add some authenticity to the refurbishment. A picturesque spot for a picnic or a spot of fishing.
