Te Awaiti Camping Area
Spectacular! Do not be put off by the remoteness. The drive is a small price to pay for this isolated paradise.
A saltwater lagoon at the end of a dead-end road with waves crashing in the distance beyond the sand bar Te Awaiti is the definition of paradise on an island in the Pacific.
Enjoy a short walk up the gravel road to access pebble beaches and watch the waves or collect some driftwood; sit back by a campfire and watch the Pied Shag (Karuhirhi) and Skylarks.
Amenities are sparse, with a composting loo and rubbish bins, but the vista more than makes up for it.
