Mataikona Sandstone Formations

Just over the hill from Castle Point is Sandy Bay, Mataikona, a quaint seaside settlement.

On the foreshore at the bottom of the hill are the Matikona Sandstone formations, an interesting geological feature of the coastline.

Best explored at low tide.

Getting there: From Castle Point, follow Masterton-Castlepoint road out of the village a short distance before taking Mataikona Rd. Follow Mataikona Rd for approx 5km.
